Let the recipient know that your feedback is intended to not just oppose data center(s), but is offered in a collaborative way.
Let the recipient know how you believe a data center will affect you and your community. This could be electricity rates, water usage, air pollution, noise pollution, etc. The more personal and individual the letters are, the more they will make an impact!
If referencing electricity, water, taxes, or other issues, make sure your claims are verifiable. Include links whenever possible. If you are looking for something specific for which you don’t already have an article to cite, there are many links in the FAQ section and the Articles & Resources page of the Protect Wiscasset website that could be helpful.
Thank the person you are writing to for their hard work and for taking your concern seriously. Invite them to connect with you for further discussion if needed.
If writing to town officials, try to include a positive alternative to a data center. For example, affordable housing, a multi-use development, or converting to conservation land.
Include your full name and address.
If you would like any helpful sample letters please reach out to us at contact@protectwiscasset.com and we will be happy to help get you started!
