Where is the land for the proposed Data Center?

Back River Waterfront:

The proposed site is on a 297.55 acre parcel of land along the Back River (Tax Map R-08, Lot 6) that is owned by the town of Wiscasset. The southern boundary of this parcel is Old Ferry Road, and is across that road from the Maine Yankee site.  While rural in location it is in close proximity to housing including a mere 2 mile distance to downtown Wiscasset.

Why would this location be desirable for an Hyperscale AI Data Center:

  • Proximity to the electrical grid infrastructure left by Maine Yankee.
  • Proximity to water.
  • Large parcel of undeveloped land.
  • Tech companies assume small communities lack the resources and organizational ability to resist large corporate polluters.
  • Local officials in small towns often have limited experience with the scale and speed of Data Center projects and savvy of developers and in turn sign non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), leaving communities in the dark about potential harms until it is too late.

Satellite view of Wiscasset including R-08, Lot 6:

Each of the red squares shown over the proposed lot, is sized at 1 acre of land.  This represents the total 200 acres of land that would be consumed by the Data Center per statements by town officials.

By comparison the entire Historic District in Wiscasset is only 101 acres.
